A Note About Apples

Did you know that there are two different kinds of apples out there?

First, there are eating apples - these are the ones you see on the shelves of your local grocery stores. These are super sweet, and they usually have a good sour, tangy taste.

Then there are heirloom apples, or hard cider apples. Their hard skin makes them more difficult to eat, but they have a lot of tannins, and their acidity balances out their sweetness, which means they produce a cider that is easy to drink when fermented. The high sugar content means they’re more alcoholic too.

See how we use them in our ciders by checking our menu at the button - and read more about some of our favorites below!

Plum

Made with 100% plum juice squeezed from our very own sugar plums, and the taste varies depending on the year’s crop - all part of the fun of sipping a bottle of this gorgeous cider. This wonderfully tart wine has a beautiful red hue.

Esopus Spitzenburg

A dry, tart cider, Esopus Spitzenburg has a fresh, floral flavor, made with apples from upstate New York (and it happens to be Thomas Jefferson’s favorite!). This apple is aromatic and complex, with the perfect balance of sharp and sweet. It’s one of our single variety apple ciders, and it’s a unique one - production depends on how many apples we have, so get it while you can!

Perfectly Peach

Perfectly Peach is a sweet peach wine that takes a ton of effort, but it’s all worth it! We blend our peaches, then grind them, then leech the juice out, and via a home-made machine, we separate the pulp, pits, and juice, which we eventually have to remove by hand. But all this work results in a smooth, refreshing drink that serves up a taste of summer all year round.

Golden Rush

This popular sweet hard cider comes from the Golden Delicious apple, an eating apple you’ve almost certainly encountered before! It packs the same goodness of Golden Delicious apples alongside the joys of hard cider, and it’s an easy drinker.
